Bentley and Max

Synopsis

Comic Book artist Max Spector, a stunningly average-looking thirty-one year old, is as far from West Hollywood Ideal as you can get. No circuit boy, gym-bot, or porn hunk, he is, instead, painfully shy, physically less-than-fit, and right now, artistically empty. Max can’t get his once-popular heroine, Galaxandra out of a deadly frost, neutralizing predicament. He mourns, “She’s in a corner. I’m in a corner. It’s more merciful to vaporize her now...” Horrified, Monica, Max’s Latina Grande best friend and sometime muse, points out that his Intergalactic Female Avenger is in a frosty place because Max is too. His lack of inspiration is due to his lack of stimulation. In order to save his flagging character (not to mention his career), Monica suggests he mingle in the real world.

At a local coffee house, Max tries his hand at flirting and is rebuffed by a Shirtless-and-Handsome Guy. Dinner at The Rib Rack fares no better. Daniel, a hot waiter, dumps Max in mid-conversation for a sexy customer.

Forced to attend the annual ComiCon, Max is instructed by his editor and boss, Ed, to be “charming and promote!” At his Galaxandra booth, Max hurriedly signs comic books and attempts charm badly. At the other end of the convention floor, a beautiful and frustrated New York actor, Bentley Armstrong, rockets in, late for work and cape-less. Desperate, this frenetic super-hero-for-hire zeros in on Max’s display and tears away the tablecloth. With his comic books exploding around him, Max’s charms go from bad to worse. He chases Bentley around the ComiCon and, finally, corners him. As the duo tug, tussle, and hyperventilate, frost turns to fire and Life and Art begin to wildly intertwine.

The reluctant and convoluted courtship of Bentley and Max is filled with both heroes and villains. Monica, naturally, plays the role of Cupid. Madison Wolcott, a mysterious fan, also seems invested in the pair’s romantic alliance. Opposing this union, however, are Latino super-hunk Agua Man and his lascivious side-kick Electro Boy; Thom, a New York pretty boy; Eddie, a newly “out” co-worker and would-be suitor.

Set against the world of comic book conventions and traveling from West Hollywood to Sin City to the Big Apple and back again, Bentley and Max follows that rocky road to romance where insecurities become tall buildings, faith becomes more powerful than any locomotive, and love is the ultimate speeding bullet.
